Chapter 9 Gray

Pulling off my shoes, I walked across my lawn as I dreamed about a hot bath. I was tired and sore from my tour of Silver Springs. I had been in almost every corner of the place, yet I still had no idea what Gunner wanted here. I did however find a few new restaurants that I wanted to try and a new dress I wanted to buy.

“Meow.” Necro Kitty appeared next to my leg and rubbed his body across my pant leg.

“Where the hell did you come from?” I swore that he had popped up out of the ground. Freaky. I really needed to talk to Daire about his strange pet.

I leaned down to scratch its head so that it didn’t try to kill me in my sleep.

Stepping onto the porch, I saw someone standing in front of the window.

Balling up my fist, I leapt forward and punched whoever was lurking in the shadows. When my fist met air, I spun around to figure out where the intruder had gone.

“Gray, I’m sorry. Please don’t hit me.” Squinting, I saw Cillian holding his hands up in defense.

“Oh shit, I’m so sorry, Cillian. You scared me.” I quickly looked down at Necro Kitty, wondering where my guard cat had been on that one. Necro Kitty tilted his head as if he/she/it were confused. He, I decided to call it a he. He seemed like he wasn’t sure if he should attack Cillian or roll over for a belly scratch.

“I’m sorry. I didn’t mean to startle you.” He glanced down at Necro Kitty and smiled. “Hello, puss.” He reached down to scratch the zombie cat behind the ear. I nearly fell over when the damn thing purred and pushed his face into Cillian’s palm despite me not telling Necro Kitty that Cillian was allowed to be in the yard.

Traitor.

“It’s okay. I’ve had a weird day; I doubt anything would bother me at this point. I apologize for not calling, but I had a problem that needed sorting out.” I doubted that he expected me to take him over to the tattoo parlor at this hour, so I assumed that he had figured out why there was an orange glowing strand attached to him.

I should have called Cillian to hear his reaction to the mating spell, but I had been dreading the conversation. For all I knew, he was really pissed that he was destined to be with his lowly tattoo artist.

He gave me a sincere smile as he pushed his hands into his trouser pockets. I’d never seen Cillian unsure of himself before, which was adorable. After feeling his overwhelming presence in the funeral parlor and the cupcake shop, it was nice to see that he could be a nervous schoolboy around me.

“Gray, I understand that a love spell was cast thanks to a good friend who explained what was happening. Admittedly, I’m a little shocked by it, but I’m not upset. I had planned to ease myself into your life and convince you to be mine.
